The Samsung Galaxy S2 was the biggest selling mobile handset of 2012 and Samsung are looking to continue this success in 2012 with two fresh. We take a look at the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S2 HD and also the new Galaxy Nexus, a device that was unveiled at the end of 2011.
Although we have had no official confirmation from Samsung, a leading mobile phone website in the UK has recently featured an advert for a new Galaxy S2 HD model. The original Galaxy S2 is approaching its first birthday so the fact that a new model may be waiting to step into its shoes is no great surprise although many experts predicted that this would be the Galaxy S3. It seems as though Samsung may hold this model back until later in the year and launch the S2 HD in the coming weeks. Although the UK release of this model has not been confirmed details on the model can be found on Samsung's Australian website. In terms of design the new HD model looks very similar to the original S2 with a black plastic back panel and a trio of three buttons located beneath the phones display. The screen size of this model has increased to 4.6 inches from 4.3 inches and the same Super AMOLED technology is used to help produce great viewing angles together with excellent colour reproduction. The phones looks set to run on the popular Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and include a high quality 8 mega pixel camera. Other major differences on this new model look set to be the inclusion of an NFC chip and an updated 1.5Ghz dual core processor that should ensure that the model is one of the fastest phones available.
Samsung will offer numerous lower specification models throughout the year but it looks as though the Galaxy S2 HD will sit alongside the superb Samsung Galaxy Nexus at the top of the range. It is difficult to differentiate between these two models although the Nexus looks set to be the highlight of the range thanks to its use of the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, the first model released to run on this platform. This will make the Nexus popular with those looking for the very latest technology while the S2 HD will appeal to the mass market who will immediately associate the model with its popular predecessor. The Galaxy Nexus offers the same size 4.6 inch display which is capable of displaying a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The model is slightly more pleasing on the eye than the S2 HD and blends some gorgeous curves with an attractive black finish that really makes the model stand out from its competitors.
Despite producing dozens of different handsets the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S2 HD will be the premier devices that are offered by the brand. The Galaxy Nexus appeals thanks to the software that is on offer while the forthcoming S2 HD includes some of the best hardware currently available.
